52 June 7, 2019June 7, 2019 One Spring Night Episodes 9-10 by abirdword So many feelings. Our young pharmacist does his best to bury his deep inside, while our librarian starts to realize that holding them back is what has been making her miserable all along. But holding back or moving forward, everyone is consumed with the ache of distance as they try to sort everything out. Except for maybe our pharmacistâs rival Ki-seok. That guy has plenty of angst to contend with as well in this hour, but his is more about avoidance than any realizations. EPISODE 9 Sitting in the car, Ji-ho promises Jung-in that he wonât let her see his feelings, just as long as he can still see her. Jung-in scoffs that the idea of him watching her secretly is ridiculous, but as she keeps talking, it sounds like her real issue is that she wants to know that Ji-ho is admiring her. Not just that, but Jung-in asks if she should get Ji-hoâs permission so that she can watch him in secret as well, basically admitting that sheâs drawn to him just as much as he is to her. She calls him selfish, and Ji-ho asks if he should allow himself to be truly selfish. But Jung-in squashes the rising emotions with a firm âno.â Ji-ho rolls out of the car and leans against his car, taking a breath of the night air to calm down. Meanwhile, Ki-seok is still out with the guys and gives Jung-in a call. Sheâs his number one on speed dial, but she doesnât pick up his call. Ji-ho drives Jung-in home, and as they arrive, Ji-ho says that they should end things there. Jung-in presses him on it, how sheâs not going to buy his lie that this is all his fault for falling for her fleeting feelings too fast. At their home, Jung-inâs parents argue as they get into bed. Dad insists that putting pressure on Jung-in is the right thing to do, while Mom stands firm in her defence of her daughter and her right to make her own decisions. The next day, Jung-in catches her Mom on the way out of her calligraphy class. While Mom defended her the night before, she still plays cold towards her daughter until Jung-in apologizes for hiding Jae-inâs return. As they sit together in an empty auditorium in the school building, Mom shares that Seo-in also got upset during a recent visit. Jung-in quickly asks what Seo-in had to say, but diverts her eyes when Mom asks if she knows something. Jung-in asks her mother what kind of guy she should marry. Mom asks about Ki-seok, and says that itâs not easy to sever such a bond with someone youâve known for so long. Even so, Momâs words are that you canât control what the heart wants. As the week continues, Jung-in and her colleagues continue to prep for the upcoming book event and are working on a theme. Jung-in suddenly blurts, âUnexpectedly You,â and presents it as a way to encourage new participants who may have shied away from the event previously. Jung-in starts to back down on the concept, but Young-joo and Ha-rin love the idea. While Jung-in is having creative breakthroughs at work, others are having less success. Ji-ho seems more and more consumed by his frustration while he works, and Seo-in turns down the offer for a new show. Her boss canât understand why she wouldnât go for it, and Seo-in manages to stay firmly silent as he badgers her with questions. Meanwhile, Shi-hoon has found his new, larger dental office. Heâs excited that all the equipment in the office will come with it, and brushes aside the real estate agentâs efforts to warn him that because this is a new building, the rent will be very costly. Shi-hoon just wants to know when he can sign the lease. After work, Ki-seok and Jung-in go out for dinner together, and Jung-in asks if Ki-seok has seen Shi-hoon recently. When Ki-seok mentions the loan, Jung-in tells him to stay away from Shi-hoon and find an excuse to deny the loan. She wonât elaborate on why though, so of course Ki-seok mentions that Shi-hoon said that he would support their marriage. It is definitely the wrong thing to say, and Jung-in gives him a hard stare. Ki-seok presses, and Jung-in asks what his parents think about them getting married. Ki-seok asks if sheâll accept his proposal if he gets that all straightened out, and Jung-in asks if he just doesnât want to lose this argument. Ki-seok retorts that itâs not like Jung-in lets him win all the time anyway. Jung-in says that she dreads spending time with Ki-seok lately, because it always turns into a fight, and she blames herself for it. Jung-in waits outside as Ki-seok pays the bill, and Ki-seok walks past her without a glance as he tells her to get in the car. Now Jung-in is angry, and she lets all of the pent-up anger out. She yells at Ki-seok about how she knows his parents donât approve of her, and how frustrated she is that while Ki-seok knows this, he just ignores how that might make her feel. Jung-in says sheâs never pestered him to get married, and she hoped only that he would understand her and her feelings. Ki-seok tries to comfort Jung-in, but sheâs too riled up and walks home by herself. And now itâs time for a misery montage! The night hasnât ended well for anyone really, and we see Jung-in curled on her couch, Ki-seok in his car still outside the restaurant, and Ji-ho in his apartment wrestling with his thoughts. At the pharmacy the next morning, Ji-ho is thrown by a woman asking for hangover medicine. All he can think about is his first encounter with Jung-in, and his fellow pharmacist has to take over while he heads to the back room the gather himself. His older coworker Pharmacist Wang arrives with a bag of clothes for Eun-woo. She asks about the girl Ji-ho is obviously pining over, and he tells her that he ended it, because âhe was too good for her.â Pharmacist Wang gives him a playful slap to the shoulder and sends him back out front. At the school, Jung-inâs dad is busy slashing the budget for books and other âunnecessaryâ things when Chairman Kwon turns up. The chairman inquires after Jung-inâs library job, and then asks what Jung-in is good at. Dad vaguely boasts that Jung-in is good at a lot of things, but the chairman seems pretty unconvinced. They take this conversation to lunch, but first Chairman Kwon fields a call from his son, telling Ki-seok to hurry up and get married. Once the chairman ends the call, Dad continues to praise Jung-in and says that sheâs very loyal and would never betray anyone. The chairman warns Dad not to trust her just because sheâs his daughter. Meanwhile, Jung-in and Young-joo with coffee in the library stacks, and Jung-in quietly announces, âIâm going to break up with Ki-seok.â Young-joo is stunned that Jung-inâs feelings for the pharmacist are that strong. Young-joo says that Jung-in wonât be able to break up with Ki-seok, because Ki-seok wonât let her. She says that maybe if there wasnât another guy, it would just fade away. But with a third-party, it will become about winning and pride. Jung-in says that while she does like Ji-ho, sheâs not sure if she has a chance with him either. Young-joo asks her to explain, and Jung-in promises to do so later, with a sigh. EPISODE 10 Ji-hoâs parents are busy at their business, though Mom may be more preoccupied with setting Ji-ho up with their single mom neighbor than she is with laundry. The bus arrives with Eun-woo, who asks about when his dad will be around so they can go to the library again. Mom presses about whatâs at the library, and Eun-woo admits that thereâs a teacher there who knows his dad. Ji-ho is out for chicken and beer with Hyun-soo, the conversation about dating and work. Hyun-soo brings up how attractive Ki-seokâs girlfriend is again, and then says that he heard theyâre getting married, but he doesnât think Ki-seok actually wants to. Ji-hoâs hackles raise as he gets defensive. âWhy are they still together then? And what does that make her?â Hyun-soo doesnât get why Ji-ho is so interested, and segues on to mention that he canât get ahold of their friend Young-jae. Ji-ho tells Hyun-soo to leave the guy alone while he studies. Cut to Young-jae, who is indeed busy studying eating dinner with Jae-in. He asks Jae-in what she plans to do when she eventually has to find a job, and Jae-in lists her many capabilities, including French, English, and piano. On the tv overhead, Seo-inâs news program comes on, and Jae-in asks Young-jae what he thinks of the newscaster. Sheâs immediately sulky when Young-jae says that Seo-in is his ideal type, sophisticated and elegant. Jae-in huffs over to get the bill. Outside, Young-jae finally checks his phone and sees all the messages from Hyun-soo. Jae-in wants to join him and Ji-ho for drinks, but Young-jae is worried theyâll speculate that theyâre more than just friends. Jae-in swears that sheâll profess that sheâs there to see Ji-ho, but Young-jae says heâs pretty sure that the guy has fallen hard for someone else already. So Jae-in goes home instead, and promptly reports this news of a mysterious love interest to Jung-in, who is picking at her late dinner. Jung-in slips up and asks Jae-in why sheâs so interested in âJi-ho shi,â and Jae-in notes the unexpected familiarity. Jung-in diverts the conversation by warning Jae-in to behave, and Jae-in growls over her shoulder that she misses her fearless sister. Ki-seok meets with Shi-hoon to relay the news that his loan has been denied. Shi-hoon is all smiles, telling Ki-seok that itâs no big deal, he can just afford to do it in cash. Ha. But then Shi-hoon starts back with his intentions to support Ki-seok and Jung-inâs marriage, and itâs clear that the latest confrontation with Jung-in is on his mind as Ki-seok pulls the paperwork back and offers to take another look at it. After Ki-seok walks Shi-hoon to his car, he receives a text from Jung-in. âWe need to talk,â it reads, and Ki-seok curses to himself as he walks back inside. Yeah, need-to-talk texts are never good. Seo-in arrives at Shi-hoonâs dental office at closing time. The receptionists are on their way out, and Seo-in asks one of the girls to pick up some stomach medicine for her. Once theyâre gone, Seo-in heads back to Shi-hoonâs office and throws his mail on the desk in front of him. She tells him to hurry up and take care of his loan, and demands his legal seal so that she can sell the apartment. Shi-hoon rises to strike Seo-in, and she runs for the doors. He pursues her and grabs her, but theyâre interrupted by the receptionist returning with Seo-inâs medicine, thank goodness. The workday is ending for Jung-in as well. She checks her texts and sees that Ki-seok is avoiding the conversation that she wants to have. Young-joo wishes her friend luck. But Jung-in is tired of waiting, and so she calls Ji-ho on her way out. But Ji-ho is busy with laundry at home and doesnât pick up. Jung-in heads to his building, seeing the lights on in his apartment. She calls again, but no answer. And so she climbs the stairs of the building, the overhead fluorescents lighting the way as she climbs to Ji-hoâs front door. Ji-ho comes out to talk to her in the hallway. He asks if something happened, and she asks him if sheâs the only one having a hard time with this. She asks if sheâs annoying, and Ji-ho gruffly says, âYes, you are.â He goes on, saying that they should just be strangers to one another, and Jung-in reaches out and silences him, her hand pressed against his mouth. She starts to cry as she pulls her hand away, and Ji-ho shifts uncomfortably before suggesting that they go get something to eat. They head to a nearby restaurant and are seated even though itâs closing time. Ji-ho recommends whatâs good, but Jung-in notes that heâs not eating. Ji-ho admits that heâs actually already had dinner. Jung-in continues to badger him, asking if sheâs a loser and a burden to him, and Ji-ho agrees, though itâs clear thereâs no heart in it, only restraint. Jung-in asks if the coffee shop they went to previously is still open, and Ji-ho asks, âArenât you going home?â Jung-in gives him a sideways look as she asks if she can stay at his place if the answer is no. They sit across from one another at the coffee shop now. Jung-in persists with her line of questions and Ji-ho holds his front, asking why Jung-in canât understand that this entire evening is torture for him. Jung-in asks why she should care. But it seems more flirty than anything else, and when Ji-ho calls her mean, she says that heâll be seeing it a lot more now that her true troublemaker self has resurfaced. Ji-ho asks her to please help him be strong and not selfish, and when Jung-in asks why, he answers that sheâs too good for him, which gives her pause. In the end, Ji-ho drives Jung-in home. As she walks away, Ji-ho canât help but watch her. Then he folds over on his car, bracing himself against his emotions. Just at that moment though, Jae-in and Young-jae arrive and ask what Ji-ho is doing in the neighborhood. Jung-in is so distracted inside, she misses the elevator and has to call for it again. While she waits, Jae-in catches up and mentions that she saw Ji-ho outside and wanted to invite Young-jae in, but she knew her sister wouldnât like it. Jung-in says that sheâs not so uptight, and so Jae-in skips off to invite both men up for a drink. This sends Jung-in racing to her apartment, desperate to clean and hide away things before everyone gets upstairs. She picks up the framed picture of her and Ki-seok, and then flips it over, ha. Jae-in leads the guys upstairs, but isnât impressed with Jung-inâs offer of tea. It seems that Jung-in polished off all the booze in the house, so Jae-in grabs Young-jae and they head out to get more alcohol, leaving Ji-ho and Jung-in alone. The two canât help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it all, but their smiles fade slowly as Jung-inâs phone begins to buzz on the table. Itâs clear that it must be Ki-seok, and Jung-in answers it, her eyes not straying from Ji-ho. Ki-seok asks what she wanted to talk about. âLetâs break up,â she says, and Ji-ho looks at her, his eyes wide. Ă COMMENTS The buzz of a vibrating phone ringing phone has never been so ominous. I was filled simultaneously with so much hope and dread, and I was so pleased to see that rather than letting it kill the revived mood, Jung-in moved forward and stuck to her plan. Weâve been hearing so much about the fearless Jung-in who doesnât back down from what she wants. And I think weâve seen the first real move towards that true self right here. Or perhaps her fight with Ki-seok outside the restaurant was the first hint that a big change was brewing for Jung-in. Her go-to so far has been the meaningful stare, so I was startled to see her yelling so emotionally in the street. I think Ki-seok was too, because he moved immediately to comfort rather than to fight back. But was Jung-inâs explosion at Ki-seok rooted in real feelings, or is this an excuse, a front to cover up the other things? Iâve kind of believed that Jung-in didnât really care about what Ki-seokâs parents thought of her, but perhaps that is part of the mask sheâs been wearing all this time, and weâre seeing feelings that have been festering for years. Itâs interesting because honestly, Iâm not sure that I see Chairman Kwon as opposed to Jung-in as a daughter-in-law. He doesnât necessarily see it as advantageous and would probably be a terribly condescending in-law, but really I just get the impression that the guy just wants his son married. It makes you wonder what Jung-in found appealing in a boring life for so long. Her sister calls her fearless, her mother tells stories of hunger strikes. Itâs seeming more and more like Jung-inâs âI donât like adventureâ line is a lie. So how did she get here? Did it happen naturally, some sort of life entrophy that got her here? Did something happen when she and Ki-seok met, that made her want to settle into dullness? I canât help but think about Ki-seokâs dadâs comment, about how Ki-seok quit music when he met Jung-in. It feels like this relationship has sucked the creativity right out of the pair, possibly from the very start. Because Jung-in isnât just experiencing changes in her romantic feelings. Sheâs also experiencing a creative revival at work, and her friends are noticing the positive changes in her as well. Itâs seeming more and more like these two, individually, are not bland or boring at all. But their union has somehow fostered this dull, sepia existence for them. And oh Ki-seok, actively avoiding what he knows is coming. I think he was hoping that Jung-in would just be too tired to break up with him if he called late enough in the evening. I appreciate though that while Ki-seok wonât admit himself that he doesnât want to get married, at least his friends recognize it. They only see the surface of things, but Ki-seok canât even get himself to that point quite yet. On to other disintegrating relationships, Iâm so proud of Seo-in in this episode. Seo-in wore battle armor to her confrontation with Shi-hoon, and I loved it. Sheâs ususally dressed in soft whites and pastels for work, so I screamed in joy when I saw her in that dark power suit at the dental office. And while it didnât stop Shi-hoonâs bad behavior, because honestly nothing short of prison is going to stop this jerk, it still gave Seo-in the courage to face him anyway. Iâm also glad that Seo-in stood up for herself and didnât take the new job assignment. Society may see this as weakness, as letting things get in her way. But I see it as her standing up to the worldâs expectations, and recognizing that success and happiness arenât just measured in workplace ascension. Itâs not that Seo-in doesnât want this show. Itâs that she knows that she has too much on her plate already, and she knows that she needs to put her safety first. And then thereâs Jae-in. Iâve been thinking about Jae-in for a while, probably because I know so many Jae-inâs. Theyâre talented and friendly with so many people, and that puts people at ease. But Iâm worried that Jae-in might have a hard time recognizing the value she has if she isnât in a relationship. She had a long list of talents to tell Young-jae about, but then she immediately focused the conversation on her desirability, and felt like she was seen as less than her upstanding sister. It feels like as much as she is a free spirit, she might need the attention from Young-jae too much. Weâll have to wait and see how far we take Jae-inâs story, but I think the happiest ending might be for Jae-in to find a fulfilling job and not be so concerned with the men in her life and their validation. The beginning of the episode starts with Ji-hoâs promise that he wonât let Jung-in see him watching her, and he ultimately holds that promise up. He stays strong against all of her efforts⌠right up until she turns her back on him to go inside her building. And then itâs here, where Ji-hoâs face softens as he watches her, letting out just a little bit of his emotions. He canât help indulge in them, but heâs determined not to interfere with Jung-inâs life. Thankfully, itâs officially too late for that. Jung-in has made her first bold move, and I can only assume that Ki-seokâs response will be to drive over to Jung-inâs apartment as quickly as he can so that they can talk in person. Jae-in and Young-jae will be totally oblivious and eagerly welcome Ki-seok in and then⌠I can only imagine. I really have no clue whether weâll introduce Ji-ho as a known rival so soon, or if weâll let it build slowly. But eventually weâre going to get a really intense game of basketball, right? 23 June 15, 2019June 14, 2019 One Spring Night Episodes 13-14 by abirdword Our librarian is determined not to back down from her intentions to break-up with her long-time beau. While Jung-in is straight-forward in her efforts, Ki-seok is equally evasive in his own determined efforts to keep the relationship going. But this delay isnât keeping Jung-in from deepening her new involvement with the pharmacist, and the list of people in the know begins to grow. And pharmacist Ji-ho? As the world starts to open up with possibilities for him, he promises to be patient until the end. EPISODE 13 Ji-ho rides alongside Ki-seok in the car, on the phone with Jung-in. Ji-ho manages to convey that heâs currently with Ki-seok through a series of simple answers to her questions, and Jung-in is ready to hang up. But Ji-ho says no, and then asks Ki-seok to let him out of the car. Ji-ho remains in the car for a moment while Ki-seok babbles apologies for making him pick up the phone. Ji-ho stays silent, and then ducks out of the car and into the crosswalk. Ki-seok yells for him, but itâs drown out by the soundtrack a s Ji-ho staggers down the street in a disoriented jog. Jung-in grabs for a shawl and heads outside, while Ki-seok meets up with his basketball buddies. Ki-seok tells them all not to worry about Ji-ho, because heâs off to see a girl, and then he grins that he canât wait to meet her. And yet, I bet you can. Ji-ho managed to stumble into a taxi, and now he arrives at Jung-inâs apartment, where he finds her with her head bowed like a contrite child. Before Ji-ho says anything, she asks if they can go somewhere less crowded before he yells, and they head to a nearby park. Sitting together on the bench, Jung-in asks if she can speak first, but Ji-ho says what heâll assume she plans to say, that sheâs sorry and that they couldnât keep talking while Ki-seok was next to him. Jung-in counters with a, âYou should have just put him on the phone then if you wanted to be bold,â and Ji-ho admits that heâs too scared to take any risks. Ji-ho says he wanted Jung-in to help push him away, since he couldnât do it himself, and Jung-in says that sheâs too busy trying to deal with her own heart to try to manage Ji-hoâs as well. Back at the restaurant, one of the guys ducks out to sooth his angry girlfriend. Ki-seok comments that the guy is on a short leash, and Hyun-soo sighs that he wishes that he had a girlfriend to put him on a leash. Ki-seok tells him to get a girlfriend then, and Hyun-soo responds that Ki-seok isnât exactly in the position to hand out dating advice, considering his own currently rocky relationship status. Ki-seok canât stand for a junior commenting on his ability to maintain a good relationship, so he leads Hyun-soo outside to put him in his place. Ki-seok is focused on Ji-ho and Young-jaeâs visit to Jung-inâs apartment though, and now Hyun-soo is defensive of his friends. Hyun-soo insists that this isnât normal behavior, especially for Ji-ho, and Ki-seok says that thatâs even more worrisome. Because Ki-seok also recalls how worked up Ji-ho got when they were out to eat when Jung-in came up and then, Ki-seok puts it together, and he asks Hyun-soo if Ji-ho likes Jung-in. Now Hyun-soo raises his voice, and says that Ki-seok makes his friends sound like they just run around hitting on any women they find. Both men sulk at each other, neither wanting to give in, until finally Ki-seok says to forget it and heads back inside. Hyun-soo calls Young-jae immediately and lashes out at him for his behavior. He warns him to not see Jung-in or Jae-in again. And Young-jae shoots off a text to Ji-ho, warning him that Hyun-soo is upset. Back on that park bench, Ji-ho and Jung-in continue to try to sort their feelings. Ji-ho says that he knew, even when he was getting mad at her that it wasnât right to do so. He says that he feels doomed, because while heâs too scared to fight for her, his love for her grows every day. He says that when he heard her try to break up with Ki-seok, he immediately began to worry that he wasnât good enough for her himself. Jung-in shares her own worries, that even though her break up isnât entirely due to her growing feelings for him, everyone will still come to their own conclusions and blame him. She says that she doesnât know what she wants from a relationship, but that sheâs not happy now. She looks down as she admits that she still wants to hope for a relationship where she isnât the only passionate one, and a love where she doesnât get hurt. And because of this, she says, she hasnât even considered a relationship with Ji-ho yet. Ji-ho says that he understands, and then tells Jung-in that heâs willing to wait for her. âEven if Iâm an old woman then?â she asks, and he replies with an affirmative and a smile. Ji-ho walks her back to her apartment and lingers until he sees her reach the elevators through the windows. He starts to walk home, but he gets a phone call. âDonât turn around,â Jung-in says through the speaker, and her blurry figure ducks back out onto the street behind Ji-ho. Ji-ho holds out until he canât any longer, and turns to face her. Jung-in tells him not to fall in love with anyone else while he waits for her, and reminds him that sheâs a selfish and mean person that will hold him to this. And then she promises to shield him from all criticism when the time comes, and says that what she had actually wanted to say on the bench is that she promises that she wonât hurt him anymore. He promises that she can take all the time that she needs, and heâll wait no matter now long. Then he leans in and hugs her, and after a moment, Jung-inâs arms reach up to return the embrace. Ji-ho wanders home among all the couples out to get their selfies with the night time cherry blossoms falling along the path, and heâs jubilant. Jung-in is cuddled at home when she receives a text from Ji-ho of the beautiful flowers that heâs looking at, and she smiles. Ji-ho smiles to himself as well, taking in the beautiful night. The next day, Jae-in runs into her mother at the grocery store. They shop together, even though Mom is obviously trying to hold up a stern front. Mom calls Jae-in a mooch for living off of Jung-in, but then transitions the conversation to Jung-in and asks what Jae-in thinks about her sisterâs relationship with Ki-seok. Jae-in is vaguely positive at first, saying that Ki-seok came over for wine with them a few nights ago. But Mom asks again and after a pause, Jae-in says that her sister looks sad. Itâs not the answer Mom was hoping for, as her shoulders sag. At the library, Jung-in stops to admire the poster for their upcoming book event with her slogan on it. Young-joo sneaks up to tease her for gloating, and then how her great idea is really just about her new relationship with the pharmacist. Jung-in confesses that Ji-ho said that he would wait for her, and Young-joo is both startled and impressed. But by the time Jung-in and Young-joo eat lunch, Jung-in asks what Young-joo would do if she was about to do something that would upset everyone. Young-joo points out that if itâs something that everyone would protest to, itâs probably not something good. Young-joo also wonders if thereâs something wrong with Ji-ho that makes Jung-in hesitate, like a current girlfriend, and Jung-in says that sheâ the one with the issue, not Ji-ho. Young-joo asks if Jung-in plans to break up with Ki-seok soon, and Jung-in says that theyâre meeting tonight, a smile on her face as she thinks about it or maybe sheâs thinking about the person she gets to spend more time with after itâs done. Young-joo sarcastically notes that Jung-in obviously feels awful about it. In the evening, the guys meet at Ji-hoâs place for dinner. Hyun-soo immediately dives into the topic of Ji-ho and Jung-in, and Ji-ho admits to his friends that there is something going on with him and Ki-seokâs girlfriend. Ji-ho said they met before and agreed to be friends, but that it didnât stay that way. His friends remain supportive of him over Ki-seok, and ask if he plans to steal her from the guy, or if Jung-in will hurry up and make up her mind. Ji-ho tells him that he gets it, why itâs hard for her to make her decision, and how Ji-hoâs own complicated life situation makes it harder. They sit together, mulling over the situation as they drink their PPL Sprite. EPISODE 14 Jung-in waits at a coffee shop, ready to break up with Ki-seok, but he calls to say that once again, he canât meet her to talk, this time because heâs out for a work dinner. Jung-in points out that this behavior demonstrates that she is not a priority to Ki-seok. She pushes forward, prepared to just break up over the phone, while Ki-seok says that heâll cover over right away and that they canât break up. Jung-in hangs up and calls Young-joo as she leaves the coffee shop. Young-joo is still at work, but says that she can meet Jung-in at her apartment soon. So off Jung-in heads to Young-joo/Ji-hoâs apartment building, where the guys are standing outside. âHas she been coming over?â Hyun-soo gasps, while Young-jae drags him away to leave Ji-ho and Jung-in to talk. Jung-in asks if Ji-ho has had dinner yet, and though his answer is yes, he still asks if he can come with her and watch her eat. Jung-in asks if he wonât be treating her to the meal, and he shrugs that his wallet isnât on him. She smiles as she says that he wouldnât buy even if that werenât the case. At the restaurant, two bowls are set before them, but then Jung-in picks up Ji-hoâs bowl and places it next to her own. She intends to eat both, since Ji-ho isnât eating. While she slurps at her two bowls, Ji-ho leans in to stare at her with dreamy eyes. Now Jung-in is uncomfortable, so she passes him a bowl and offers him a bite with her own chopsticks. Thereâs a moment, and then while Jung-in reaches clumsily for new chopsticks for him, he grabs the bowl and takes a big slurp with her utensils. Meanwhile, Seo-in gets a visit from her mother. As Mom pushes, Seo-in finally admits that she and Shi-hoon are in the process of getting a divorce, and currently arenât living together. Mom says that she is impressed that Seo-in held out in this relationship this long. Seo-in says that sheâs quit her job as well, and says that itâs because sheâd like to go back to school. Seo-in wants to have Jae-in move in with her. Before Mom can ask another question, the doorbell begins to ring, over and over again. When Seo-in doesnât rise to answer it, her phone buzzes with a call, and the doorbell keeps ringing. When itâs clear itâs not going to stop, Seo-in gets up to answer the door, Mom only a few steps behind. Shi-hoon swaggers in, until he spots Mom there and his eyes grow wide in shock. Mom pushes forward and takes Shi-hoon out into the hall to talk alone. Mom admonishes him for showing up like this when she understands that he no longer lives together with Seo-in. She tells him sheâs disappointed, and that if this continues, sheâll make sure that the two of them get divorced. Mom watches as Shi-hoon boards the elevator, and then Shi-hoonâs look of shame flashes into something sharper and scarier as the doors close. Mom heads home, so distracted that she doesnât even register her husband standing in the kitchen with her as she worries about her daughters. Seo-in broods in bed, and then receives a text from Mom âWe can get through this. I love you.â The next day, itâs round two at the coffee shop, and this time Ki-seok shows up. Not only that, but he plies Jung-in with compliments. Just as Jung-in starts to utter the words, Ki-seok interrupts that he still wants to try to make things work, and that his father is interested in meeting Jung-in. Itâs an opportunity that Jung-in canât resist, and she agrees to him with him. As they get into Ki-seokâs car, Jung-in asks to meet Ki-seokâs father by herself. Ki-seok seems a little uncomfortable, but he doesnât argue anymore and agrees. Over at the pharmacy, Ji-hoâs mom stops by with Eun-woo and they all go out to lunch together. As theyâre eating, Mom asks about the teacher at the library Ji-ho says sheâs just a friend, and then she mentions that thereâs a woman that sheâd like to set Ji-ho up with. Ji-ho takes a breath and then confesses that thereâs someone who heâs interested in right now. Mom is overcome with happiness to hear that, and Ji-ho has to choke back his own tears as his mother cries with joy. Momâs tears are still flowing even back at the store. They wonder if the mystery woman has a kid of her own, and then agree that as long as Ji-ho and the woman want to be together, thatâs all that matters. Meanwhile, Chairman Kwon receives a call from Jung-in to set up a meeting. Heâs surprised to hear from her directly, not Ki-seok, and even moreso when she asks to meet him without Ki-seok, but his smile suggests that heâs not offended by any of it. That evening, Jae-in lingers outside Young-jaeâs cram school to take him out. But Young-jae says that heâs too busy studying, and when Jae-in says sheâll come by next time, he says that heâs going to be too busy for a while. Jae-in gets the point, and snarls that Young-jae better pass the test this time from all that studying. At home Jae-in confesses that Young-jae rejected her, and tells Jung-in she should dump the pharmacist too. Jae-in then relays that Mom was asking after Jung-in and is worried about her. Later that night, Jung-in tells Ji-ho over the phone about the Jae-in/Young-jae incident, and she wonders if it was because of her. Ji-ho says that Young-jae isnât like that and he probably just really needs to study. Jung-in mentions that Jae-in knows about them, and then Ji-ho admits that he told his mother that he likes someone. Jung-in asks what his mom said about it, and Ji-ho says that she cried. Jung-in promises again that she wonât hurt him, and Ji-ho says that theyâll both be good to one another. Ji-ho chuckles about how surreal it feels to say, âweâ in regards to the two of them. The next day, Chairman Kwon asks his secretary to set up his lunch with Jung-in. Jung-inâs dad arrives and is completely surprised to hear that the chairman is meeting with Jung-in. Chairman Kwon calls Jung-in âdaring,â and it definitely sounds like a compliment. Meanwhile, Ki-seok is at a jewelry shop, asking to see a ring. Oh no, Ki-seok. Donât do it. Ji-ho picks up Eun-woo for a trip to the library, while Jung-in dresses in her best neutral outfit and heads out for her lunch date with the chairman. The chairman offers his hand to greet her with a handshake, and sits down eager to talk with Jung-in. Jung-in doesnât beat around the bush and dives directly into the topic on her mind she knows that Chairman Kwon doesnât approve of her, but she hadnât really considered it since she hadnât started dating Ki-seok with marriage in mind. At the library lunch room, Eun-woo is disappointed that the teacher isnât working that day. Eun-woo asks for water, and Ji-ho bumps into Young-joo. She asks why heâs there since Jung-in isnât working, and when he gestures to Eun-woo she smiles and notes that heâs here with his nephew, garnering only a tight smile from Ji-ho. The lunch with the chairman continues, and Chairman Kwon praises Jung-in for being opinionated. He says that he got the impression that even her father was afraid of her, and tells her thatâs a compliment. Jung-in then tells him that sheâs incredibly grateful for the position that the chairman offered her father in his organization, regardless of the state of Jung-in and Ki-seokâs relationship. At home, Jung-inâs Dad paces the kitchen, desperate for news from Jung-in. Mom shoves her phone at him so that he can wait for Jung-in to call himself, while he continues to pace nervously. Ki-seokâs officially purchased something from the jeweler, while Ji-ho spots Jung-inâs event poster as he wanders the library halls. Back to the lunch with Chairman Kwon, he asks if Jung-in and Ki-seok have discussed marriage. Jung-in says that they have, and the chairman says that it sounds like the two arenât on the same page about it. âIâm sorry,â Jung-in says. âI donât want to get married.â COMMENTS I knew the chairman was going to take a liking to Jung-in as soon as she made that phone call. Heâs been flippant and a bit of a jerk, heâs a guy that believes that love is like a business deal, and yet, I was never convinced that he had any other motives other than wanting his son married. And if heâs been resistant to Jung-in all this time, it seems like that resistance was rooted in his feelings about her father. But instead of a meek yes-woman who takes after her dad, Chairman Kwon sees Jung-in as a woman who is assertive and sticks to her believes, and Iâm pretty sure all those smiles he shot Jung-inâs way means that he admires those traits. Weâve yet to see how he will handle Jung-in rejecting his son though. He may like Jung-inâs self-assured manner, but that might not be enough to withstand a blow to his pride. So heâll either rebuke Jung-in for daring to not love his son, or take away Ki-seokâs basketball court privileges until he steps up his game. Weâll see how it goes soon enough. And Ki-seok has officially moved on from one of my favorite characters and officially into bad guy status. I knew it was inevitable, but Iâm still sad to see him go that direction. When your girlfriend asks to break up, it shouldnât take her more than one conversation to get it done. And you should definitely not be buying engagement rings after youâve basically been broken up with over three times now. And itâs this, not the apathy of their relationship, that is the real cause of the breakdown. Ki-seok doesnât think about how Jung-in feels at all. He doesnât care about what she actually wants. He doesnât seem to care about anything at all, honestly. And thatâs too bad, because when heâs lost his girlfriend, and then his job if he keeps helping Shi-hoon out, what is he going to have left? Moving on to Shi-hoon, Iâm surprised that he managed to look contrite for as long as he did in the hall with Mom, and I was not surprised at all by that gleam in his eye as the elevator closed. It was a gleam that said that he wasnât going to let anyone get in his way, not even Seo-inâs family. And itâs scary. There is a possibility that Seo-inâs life could be in danger soon, once Shi-hoon feels like heâs in a corner with nothing left to lose. His look did not say that he respected anything that Mom had to say. As worried as I am for Seo-in, Iâm also concerned about Jae-in now. We know that sheâs not good with rejection, and as much as sheâs been trying to play it casual with Young-jae, itâs clear that sheâs hurt by his rejection. Will the stalking habits return now that Young-jae is avoiding her? And how does that complicate the already tangled web of inter-relationships going on here? Iâm worried that Jung-in and Ji-ho will be asked to take sides as this conflict develops. As for Ji-ho and Jung-in, as much as they may be holding back, things are still moving forward and I love it. They already have the kind of relationship where they are talking to each other at the end of every day and playfully teasing one another over dinner. Iâd consider it emotional cheating on Jung-inâs behalf, except that Jung-in has been actively trying to end her current relationship for days now. She is doing her best to not make the break-up about this newly blossoming romance, but the longer Ki-seok holds out, the more likely that he try to feel justified in his indignation. Especially since he already has his suspicions, and the number of people who know about the relationship is growing around him. Because OSN is the result of what SITR could've been. It's about growth to both the drama and especially to the writer. One Spring Night is a take on modern Korea where the youth have to face the older generation, but not with guns or lawsuits, it's all about first two episodes give the viewer an amazing introduction to the story, something most kdramas really fails to do, and the supporting cast is probably the best of the year. Every single person here has a story, no matter how much screentime they got. I dare to say that at least 3 or 4 supporting characters could easily have a drama to call their own, even if they just appear for a few minutes each episode. The music is soft and the editing makes the transitions between conflicts fit in nicely with the narrative. Remember when I said this drama is about growth especially to the writer? Well, this drama is not perfect. It has its problems but that's what growth is. It's not a straight line to success. Don't come to this thinking all the missing points from SITR were fixed and that you won't get annoying sometimes. But the acting, damn, the don't like to compare performances because I like to believe that actors can't only do so much if the script isn't good. But what an amazing performance by everyone. One Spring Night is once again about growth, and I believe that the best score you can give to a drama is "I want to watch whatever this writer and director are doing next".For the first time in a while, I feel bad that I can't see a drama on my 'currently watching' list anymore. There's no "I want to finish this quickly so I can watch another one" with One Spring Night. In a world where people consume so much media, not seeing a piece of content as a simple checklist is one of the best adjectives it can get. That's what happens with watch it, watch two episodes a week, whatever works for you. If possible, watch it on a Spring Night. Read More Was this review helpful to you?

recaps discussion news cast 71 June 9, 2019June 9, 2019 One Spring Night Episodes 11-12 by TeriYaki Our pharmacist is suddenly of great interest to those closest to the conflicted librarian, which makes is more difficult for her to break free from her long-time boyfriend. Even when her boyfriend suspects that there could be someone else, the thought that Jung-in could open her heart to a single dad is unfathomable. Though denial may stall a break up, but it canât stop a growing bond between Jung-in and our pharmacist. EPISODE 11 RECAP Jung-in locks her gaze on Ji-hoâs face while she tells Ki-seok that she wants to break up. Ji-ho steps outside so Jung-in can have some privacy while she tries to convince Ki-seok that sheâs serious. Ki-seok asks for Jung-inâs reason but she tells him, ââŚletâs break up without any reason,â and with nothing more to say, she hangs up. Jung-in lets Ji-ho back into her apartment and when he offers to leave as soon as Young-jae returns, Jung-in assures him itâs not necessary because, âThis has nothing to do with you.â Ji-ho isnât sure how he feels now that the woman that heâs attracted to just broke up with her boyfriend. Jung-in tells Ji-ho that she isnât sure when her confusion began, only that she avoided dealing with it. The tension eases when Ji-ho jokes that he helped out by serving as Jung-inâs punching bag. Jae-in and Young-jae return and as they wait for the elevator, Young-jae worries that Jung-in might not want company. Jae-in reminds him that her sister is the straightforward type but Young-jae doesnât see her that way. Annoyed that Young-jae has paid that much attention to Jung-in, Jae-in threatens to go after Ji-ho until she remembers that he likes someone. Young-jae warns Jae-in not to mention it but once theyâre upstairs and Jae-in has had a few drinks, she confronts Ji-ho, âI heard youâre head over heels for someone.â Jae-in wants to know what Ji-ho finds attractive about his mystery woman and laughs when he answers, âSheâs such a fool.â When Ji-ho gets a call from Eun-woo, Jung-in directs him to her room and cringes when she sees the clothes that she tossed onto the floor. Jung-in shoves the clothes into her closet just as Eun-woo asks Ji-ho why he isnât talking. Ji-ho explains that heâs at a friendâs house and the boy pries, âAre you at the teacherâs place?â Even though Ji-ho denies it, Eun-woo asks to speak to the teacher, which Jung-in overhears. Jung-in takes the phone and smiles at Ji-ho while she talks with his son. When Jung-in sweetly ends the call, âIâll see you in your dream,â Ji-ho is overcome with emotion. Later, the impromptu party is interrupted by the doorbell. The sisters are surprised to see that Ki-seok is the visitor and Jung-in instructs Jae-in not to come out. When Jung-in walks out, Ki-seok can tell that sheâs been drinking. Inside, Jae-in tries to keep the party going but Ji-ho keeps glancing at the door. Ki-seok argues that Jung-in needs to observe good manners but she reasons, âWe have no respect for each other, so who cares how our relationship ends?â Angry, Ki-seok insists on working things out but Jung-in warns him to lower his voice. Ki-seok wants to go somewhere else to talk but Jung-in refuses and when she tries to go back inside, he grabs her. When everyone inside hears Jung-in protest, âDonât do that,â Jae-in gets up to investigate. Young-jae whispers that itâs time to go but Ji-ho points out that would only make things more awkward. One of Ji-hoâs shoes gets kicked outside when Jae-in opens the door and explains, âWe have guestsâŚâ When Jae-in invites Ki-seok to join them, Jung-in sends her sister back inside, alone. Ki-seok reminds Jung-in that he gave her time to think and asks for the same consideration. Once Jung-in returns, Ji-ho tells Young-jae, âLetâs go.â Jae-in is upset that Ki-seok ruined the fun but Young-jae insists, âWe were going to leave anyway.â On his way out, Ji-ho giveâs Jung-inâs shoulder a reassuring pat. As they wait for the kindergarten bus the next morning, Ji-hoâs mother asks Eun-woo about his phone call with his father. The boy explains that he talked with the teacher, âShe told me that I need to go to bed early to grow taller.â Mom crouches down to double check that Eun-woo is talking about a woman and the boy reminds her that all teachers are women. Cute. Once the bus leaves with Eun-woo, Mom sits in the dry cleanerâs shop to think. When Dad joins her, Mom shares her suspicion, âI think Ji-ho is seeing someone,â and sheâs already guessed that the woman works at the library that Ji-ho and Eun-woo visited. Chairman Kwon arrives at the school just as Jung-inâs after, Principal Lee, returns from a meeting. Principal Lee promises to write up a report for the chairmanâs benefit but Chairman Kwon suggests taking a walk together first. Chairman Kwon offers Principal Lee a position at his foundation after his retirement. Principal Lee thanks the chairman, who uses the opportunity to counsel, âAnd about our kidsâŚMarriage is a major life event, so we should really think it throughâŚLetâs not make a rash decision.â Ha-rin returns to her desk, puzzled about some new dinosaur childrenâs books that have gone missing. Ha-rin and Young-joo are surprised when Jung-in announces that she took them â for her nephew. Young-joo blinks and then points out that Jung-in has no nephews. Jung-in corrects herself, âItâs my cousinâs son,â and after she makes a hasty exit, her friends agree that Jung-in looked flustered. As the pharmacy team prepares to close, Ye-seul offers to set up Ji-ho on a blind date but Pharmacist Wang warns her not to bother. When Ji-ho and Pharmacist Wang go out for coffee, she confesses that she misses the old Ji-ho, âYou were fun, smart, and competitive.â Pharmacist Wang knows how much Eun-woo changed Ji-hoâs life, but sheâs noticed a change in Ji-ho recently. Ji-ho admits, âThereâs someone I like,â and adds that because of the womanâs situation and a series of obstacles, he isnât sure if he should pursue her. When asked if heâd regret letting her go, Ji-ho shakes his head, âI can endure it all, sheâll obviously have a hard time because of me.â Pharmacist Wang argues, âYouâve suffered enoughâŚCan I see that high-spirited version of you again?â Shi-hoon stands over a shaken Seo-in in their trashed apartment and rips up a document, âLet me say this one more time. You canât get out of this marriage.â On his way out, Shi-hoon mentions that he invited Jung-in and Ki-seok over and tells Seo-in to arrange the date. Later, when Seo-in is about to go on the air, Shi-hoon texts a reminder to schedule the get-together. Seo-inâs co-anchor mentions rumors of a scandal and Seo-in vows not to let him down. Seo-in submits her resignation and when her boss wonders what jerk is spreading rumors about her, she says nothing. He offers Seo-in the support of the company but she points out its inability to stop the rumors. Seo-inâs boss worries that she has plans to join another network but Seo-in claims that she wants to study. Her boss mentions the companyâs training program but Seo-in insists on keeping her plans private. Jung-inâs mother stops at the library to talk to Jung-in. When Mom informs Jung-in that Chairman Kwon offered her father a job at the foundation, Jung-in realizes that her parents expect the offer to influence her decision about Ki-seok. Jung-in reminds her mother that this is what happened with Seo-in, which is why Jung-in and her father canât get along. EPISODE 12 RECAP Ji-ho meets Hyun-soo outside of the bank and when they see Ki-seok, Hyun-soo invites him to join them for a drink. Ki-seok canât make it since heâs on his way to see his girlfriend but after seeing Ji-hoâs shoes, he changes his mind. Jae-in and Young-jae are out together again and Jae-in mentions that Ji-ho and Jung-in behaved suspiciously the night that they were all together. Young-jae comes to their defense â Ji-ho just went into Jung-inâs room to talk on the phone and Jung-in went in to tidy up. Jae-in persists, âThose two seem fishy, right,â and Young-jae blurts out, âYes. I mean, no. She has a boyfriend.â Young-joo catches up to Jung-in after work to ask if sheâs on her way to end things for good with Ki-seok. When Jung-in informs her that Ki-seok cancelled, Young-joo warns, âDonât think youâre out of the woods yet.â Over drinks, Hyun-soo asks Ki-seok why he cancelled his plans with his girlfriend. Ki-seok stares at Ji-ho before bringing up the other night. Ji-ho readily admits, âYes, I was at the apartment. I knew you came by, but I couldnât come outâŚâ Ki-seok sighs in relief when Ji-ho adds that he was there with Jae-in and Young-jae. Hyun-soo looks confused, so Ki-seok explains that his friends were invited to his girlfriendâs house by her sister. Hyun-soo comes to his friendsâ defense but Ki-seok now finds the entire situation funny. Ki-seok admits that when he saw the mensâ shoes, âI got pissed because it seemed like she had someone else.â Amused by his misunderstanding, Ki-seok tells Ji-ho, âIf I had known it was you, I wouldâve gone in and buried the hatchet with Jung-in.â Ki-seok looks puzzled when Ji-ho admits, âI shouldâve told you the truth.â Young-jae gets a call from Hyun-soo and has to explain, âWe didnât plan on going there and nothing happened.â Young-jae tells Jae-in that Ki-seok found out that he and Ji-ho were at the apartment and she mutters, âThat was fast.â Jung-in sees the pair on her way to her building and Jae-in informs her that Ki-seok and Ji-ho are together. When Jung-in enters her apartment, she pulls out her phone, unsure what to do. Jae-in walks in to confront her sister about Ji-ho, âYouâre the woman he likes, right?â Jung-inâs silence says everything and Jae-in has to ask, âDo you like him too?â When Jung-in confesses that she does, Jae-in summarizes, âSo the two men pining over you are currently together.â When Jung-in is about to call Ji-ho, Jae-in orders her to call Ki-seok instead to find out what he knows. Ki-seok lays it on a bit thick for the benefit of Ji-ho when Jung-in calls, âWhen have you ever asked me to rush over?â Ki-seok is convinced that Jung-in probably wants to make up so Hyun-soo urges him to hurry. Ji-ho protests, âCanât you stayâŚCanât your girlfriend come here instead?â Hyun-soo pronounces Ji-ho drunk and once Ki-seok is gone, he asks, âWhatâs going on,â but a miserable Ji-ho can only shake his head and whisper that itâs nothing. While Jung-in waits for Ki-seok to arrive, Ji-ho tries to cheer himself up with a call to Eun-woo. Over wine, Jae-in explains to Ki-seok, âIt was my doing, so no more misunderstandings.â Ki-seok assures Jae-in that he doubted Jung-in for no reason because Ji-ho poses no threat. Jae-in doesnât understand so Ki-seok explains that Ji-ho is a single father. Ki-seok laughs that Ji-ho tried to stop him from coming over. Jung-in decides that he must have been drunk and Ki-seok agrees, otherwise Ji-hoâs comment would be strange. Jae-in asks Ki-seok to forget about what happened but he reminds her that itâs Ji-ho theyâre talking about. Jae-in takes exception to Ki-seokâs attitude, âYou canât judge someone just because heâs a single father. Itâs out of line to say that heâs not even worth considering.â Ki-seok grumbles that he feels like the bad guy, which could have been avoided if Jung-in had reconciled with him sooner. Ki-seok grabs Jung-inâs hand to announce, âWeâre thinking about getting married. Can I count on your help?â Jae-in squelches her surprise with a smile and says nothing. Jung-in walks Ki-seok to the street and when he asks, âWhat will become of us,â she tells him, âItâs late.â Ki-seok wonders if sheâs talking about them and pulls Jung-in into a hug that she doesnât return. Ki-seok tries to convince Jung-in, âLetâs be more in love. Iâll do better.â Back in her apartment, Jung-in asks Jae-in if sheâs disappointed. Jae-in admits that sheâs disappointed with Ki-seok and feels badly about Ji-ho. Jae-in asks if Jung-in has made up her mind and when she shakes her head, Jae-in promises, âJust know that I have your back no matter what.â Jung-in tears up when Jae-in gives her a sisterly hug. In the morning, Ye-seul warns her boss not to go into the pharmacy because Ji-ho is in the middle of a serious phone call with a woman. In the back room, Ji-ho tells Jung-in that he knows that Jung-inâs actions were meant to protect him. When Jung-in apologizes, âIâm sorry for liking you,â Ji-ho exclaims, âWhat a pleasant morning.â When Chairman Kwon drops off an herbal tonic, Ki-seok invites his father for a cup of coffee. In Ki-seokâs office, Chairman Kwon warns his son to cut ties with people who cling to him because he works at a bank, âYou must be objectiveâŚBlindly believing in them will drive you off a cliff.â Chairman Kwon informs Ki-seok that when Principal Lee retires, heâll work for the foundation. Ki-seok is shocked when his father asks him to bring Jung-in home for a visit. Chairman Kwon laughs and asks if they broke up but Ki-seok answers that heâs marrying Jung-in. After another intense basketball game, Ji-ho announces that heâs headed home. Ki-seok urges him to join the team for dinner and thereâs an uncomfortable pause until Ji-ho agrees. Hyun-soo offers Ji-ho a ride but he decides to go with Ki-seok. During the drive, Ki-seok asks Ji-ho why the identity of the woman that heâs seeing is a secret from Hyun-soo. Ki-seok envies the excitement of a new relationship and Ji-ho asks, âNot for you anymore?â Ki-seok admits, âThe honeymoon phase is over in about a month anyway. Once that ends, you just keep dating each other unless something happens.â When Ki-seok confirms that heâs been with his girlfriend for a long time, Ji-ho points out, âBut then you could fall out of love.â Ki-seok thinks that Ji-ho is talking about cheating, something that he would never do, but he would break up with his girlfriend if she ever cheated. When Ji-ho asks if Ki-seok could let her go, Ki-seok confesses, âI wouldnât let go so easilyâŚâ Ji-ho ignores a phone call but Ki-seok suspects that itâs the mystery woman and urges him answer. Itâs Jung-in, whoâs checking to see if Ji-ho is at the pharmacy because she has something to say. Ji-ho tells her that he just finished his basketball game and Jung-in guesses that heâs with Ki-seok. When Jung-in offers to hang up, Ji-ho pleads, âDonât hang up.â COMMENTS Itâs impossible to ignore how differently Jung-in behaves whenever Ki-seok is around. Sheâs tense, unhappy and overall miserable with Ki-seok but he doesnât see it. Ki-seok seems to think that if he protests long enough, he can get Jung-in to agree to get married. What Ki-seok canât see is how Jung-in behaves when heâs not around, sheâs like a different person. Back in Episode 4, Jung-in and Ki-seok sat on her couch when she asked him for a break. They sat as far apart as possible and Jung-in was stiff and uncomfortable. In contrast, Jung-in sits on that same couch with Ji-ho while Jae-in and Young-jae are out to pick up drinks. Even though they are seated just as far apart as Jung-in and Ki-seok were, Jung-in prepared some tea and she is relaxed and willing to make eye contact with Ji-ho. Itâs Ji-ho who canât relax yet he still manages to joke with Jung-in and gets her to smile. Itâs the same thing with the hugs. Ki-seok pulls Jung-in into a tight hug after meeting with her and Jae-in, even though Jung-in does nothing to encourage him. Jung-in sighs and rolls her eyes as Ki-seok promises to do better and itâs painful to watch him cling to her. When Jung-in returns to her apartment, Jae-in comforts her with another hug and Jung-in hugs her sister back and smiles amid her tears. Itâs not that Jung-in is a cold woman, itâs that she no longer has romantic feelings for Ki-seok. Jung-in hasnât been willing to admit that to Ki-seok, instead determined to break up with him without citing a specific reason. Even though she now has feelings for Ji-ho, thatâs not the only reason that Jung-in wants to be free. Itâs worrisome to know Ki-seokâs perspective about relationships as explained to Ji-ho on that drive to the post-game dinner. Relationships get comfortable and continue if thereâs no good reason to end them. Thatâs an awfully low standard and explains why Jung-in is so underwhelmed by Ki-seokâs suggestion of marriage. It sounds as if Ki-seok has no idea how to love Jung-in properly, which is the reason that Jae-in never warmed up to Shi-hoon. Well, there are may reasons for that but no one knows them, yet. I get the feeling that Ki-seok never treasured Jung-in, he just continued to see her because there wasnât a good reason not to. Ji-ho is on a different plane. Ji-ho is willing to suffer an unwanted separation and battles his temptations for Jung-inâs sake. Ji-ho does treasure Jung-in and is willing to let her go unlike Ki-seok, who wonât even consider breaking up with Jung-in. Unfortunately, Jung-inâs parents think more like Ki-seok and now that Chairman Kwon has offered Principal Lee a post-retirement position, theyâre even more anxious to see their daughter married to his son. As gruff and unpleasant as Chairman Kwon can be, if you strip away how he speaks, what he has to say makes lots of sense. Chairman Kwon is actually quite wise and preaches caution, with good reason. Marriage is a big decision and a bad choice leads to a difficult life. Ki-seok should be cautious at work because personal feelings interfere with sound decisions. Iâm finding myself warming up to the man even though his delivery could use some work. One parallel that I find adorable is the father and son connection with Jung-in. These two fell for Jung-in at first sight and canât stop thinking about her. Eun-woo canât wait to see her again and when he heard that Ji-ho was at a friendâs house, he instinctively knew he was talking about Jung-in. That nighttime conversation between Eun-woo and Jung-in moved Ji-ho to tears because it must have been so rewarding to know that the two people in his heart have a bond of their own. Unfortunately, Ki-seok isnât about to step aside so that Jung-in can find happiness with someone else, especially not a man like Ji-ho, whoâs a single father. Ki-seokâs refusal to acknowledge that Ji-ho is a serious romantic rival shows just how clueless he truly is. When the ex-boyfriend tries to make his marriage plans official, he pushes our kind and patient pharmacist too far and the battle lines become clearer. Even though our lead coupleâs friends may be confused by the latest development, our librarian couldnât be more certain about her choice and she makes a move that leaves no doubt in her manâs mind. EPISODE 23 Jung-in enters Chairman Kwonâs house and thanks him for seeing her. When she sits down, Chairman Kwon repeats that he wishes that theyâd met sooner and Jung-in graciously observes, âItâs all in the past.â When Chairman Kwon wonders, âIs that how itâll be,âJung-in informs him that she hasnât changed her mind, impressing her host yet again. While they wait for a taxi after dinner, a drunk Principal Lee urges Ki-seok to stay focused on marriage, especially now that heâs secured the blessings of both fathers. Principal Lee tells Ki-seok that he canât wait until he officially becomes his son-in-law. Jung-in asks Chairman Kwon to convince her father to give up on the marriage and when he hesitates, sheâs blunt, âThere is no future for me and Ki-seok. I donât want there to be one.â Jung-in doesnât answer when Chairman Kwon asks if thereâs someone else, even when he promises not to hold it against her. Chairman Kwon says he understands Jung-in and offers to give her all the time that she needs. When Jung-in insists that she no longer has feelings for Ki-seok, Chairman Kwon dismisses the problem, âNo oneâs sure of their feelings. They can always change.â After her visit, a frustrated Jung-in walks away from the house while Chairman Kwon retrieves the surveillance photos and zeroes in on one of Ji-ho and Eun-woo. Jung-in texts Ji-ho, âIâm too exhausted, soâŚIâll talk to you tomorrow,â and when she gets home, she ignores Jae-in and falls onto her bed. The next day, Ki-seok is surprised to find Chairman Kwonâs driver waiting to deliver an envelope. When Ki-seok sees the surveillance photos, he realizes that his father knows the truth. Later that morning, Chairman Kwon is surprised when his maid reports that there havenât been any calls while Ki-seok sits at home, trying to decide what to do. During a brief stop at Ji-hoâs place, Hyun-soo asks what Jung-in had to say about her fatherâs meeting with Ki-seok. After he leaves, Ji-ho calls Jung-in, whoâs still in bed. She jokes that sheâs causing trouble and sits up in alarm when Ji-ho teases, âYou already did that yesterday.â When asked what happened, Jung-in admits that she doesnât want to talk about it and Ji-ho is understanding, as usual. Jung-in grumbles that compared to Ji-ho, sheâs the anxious and impatient one. Worried that he hasnât provided her with enough certainty, Ji-ho asks, âWould you like to meet my parents?â Jung-inâs eyes widen in shock and when Ji-ho teases that heâd like to see the look on her face, Jung-in deadpans, âIâm unfazed.â Jung-in is even more anxious but Ji-ho assures her that his parents are nice people. Jung-in envies him but Ji-ho is quick to explain that when he looks at her, he can tell that Jung-inâs parents are nice too. Jung-in heard about the advice that Jae-in gave Ji-ho and he admits, âIâve already been bracing myself. Besides, Iâm too happy right now to rush into anything in a hurry.â Ji-ho canât help but smile when Jung-in disagrees, âNot me. I want you badly.â Shi-hoon pays his in-laws a surprise visit and shocks them when he kneels down and admits that itâs his fault that Seo-in wants a divorce. Before his mother-in-law can interrupt, Shi-hoon tells Principal Lee that he was drunk when he hit Seo-in during an argument. Shi-hoon weeps and begs his father-in-law to intervene, âI canât live without Seo-in.â Jung-inâs mother canât believe it when her husband bellows, âA divorce is just absurd!â Young-joo is waiting outside when Jung-in arrives to spend time with her friend before her date with Ji-ho. As theyâre about to leave for lunch, Eun-woo runs up excitedly, âMs. Lee!â Ji-hoâs mother asks how Jung-in knows Eun-woo and guesses that sheâs the teacher from the library. Before Mom gets the wrong idea, Young-joo explains, âIâm her friend and I coincidentally happen to live on the second floor.â Eun-woo pulls his grandmother inside and when he sees Ji-ho, asks, âWhy isnât Ms. Lee coming?â Ji-hoâs mother explains that they ran into Jung-in and Ji-ho canât wait to hear her opinion. When his mother describes Jung-in as smart, meticulous and pretty, Ji-ho canât keep from smiling. At lunch, Young-joo announces that itâs time for her to move so that sheâs no longer involved in Jung-inâs personal issues. Jung-in credits Young-joo for leading her to Ji-ho and hopes that sheâll have to reward her friend one day. While Jung-in worries about Ji-hoâs mother, Young-joo brings up Eun-woo, âAre you sure you can be a mother?â When Jung-in explains that she has time before she has to worry about that, Young-joo asks if sheâs keeping her options open. Jung-in brings up the topic of changing feelings and Young-joo tells her that while feelings can shift, human nature stays the same. Ki-seok calls Jung-in at that very moment and Young-joo shakes her head, âSee? People never change.â Ki-seok wants to talk to Jung-in and promises to wait at her place until she comes home. Seo-inâs parents and Shi-hoon are now at Seo-inâs apartment, where Principal Lee lectures his daughter and son-in-law. When Principal Lee asks Seo-in to forgive Shi-hoon, she explains that she made her decision after much thought. Seo-in realizes that her father is convinced that Shi-hoon only abused her once when Principal Lee exclaims, ââŚit was a mistake. He wouldnât have done it on purpose.â Seo-in announces that sheâs proceeding with the divorce but Principal Lee argues that once her marriage is back on track, Seo-in can think about having a baby. Everyone is shocked when Seo-in blurts out that sheâs already pregnant. The baby gives Principal Lee even more ammunition against Seo-in, who he now labels as â..immature and reckless.â Seo-in shouts, âYour daughter was assaultedâŚHow much more must I endure for you to understand me?â After her mother guides a distraught Seo-in to the bedroom, Shi-hoon grins over the turn of events. Ugh. Alone with Seo-in, Mom apologizes for her husband, âHow could I have lived with a man like that all these years?â Mom leaves when Seo-in agrees to speak with Shi-hoon privately. He kneels down and makes his plea, âIâm sorryâŚIâll devote my life to you and our babyâŚSo please forgive me this once.â When Seo-in refuses, Shi-hoon coldly reminds her that he wonât be the only one ruined by a divorce. Seo-in readily admits, âRevealing that youâre a son-of-a-bitch will also let people know that Iâm a pathetic woman who only married for money.â Shi-hoon promises that heâll agree to a divorce if he ever hurts Seo-in again. Seo-inâs answer is that she wonât press assault charges if Shi-hoon gives up his parental rights. Shi-hoon stands up and glares at Seo-in, âThen I choose to be an ex-con.â After Ji-ho puts Eun-woo down for a nap, he gets a text from Jung-in and tells his mother that heâll be back. Jung-in is waiting outside and when she asks Ji-ho what his mother thought of her, he jokes, ââŚshe said youâre ugly,â Jung-in punches Ji-ho in the arm and the pair walks away holding hands while Ji-hoâs mother watches from the open window. During their walk, Ji-ho encourages Jung-in to meet Ki-seok to listen to what he has to say. When Jung-in calls him incredibly patient, Ji-ho explains, âI trust you. Thatâs all.â EPISODE 24 Ki-seok takes Jung-in to the school garden where they first met. After admitting that he waited too long, Ki-seok places a box in Jung-inâs hand, âLetâs get married. What you think doesnât matter. Iâm choosing this for your sake.â When Jung-in tries to return it, Ki-seok puts his hands in his pockets and backs away. While Ji-ho sighs after a checking his phone, Ki-seok hugs an emotionless Jung-in. After Ji-ho drives his mother and Eun-woo back to his parentsâ place, Ji-hoâs mother whispers to her husband that she saw the girl that Ji-ho likes, and theyâre already holding hands. Ji-hoâs dad mentions that sheâs pretty and then covers his mistake by insisting that all young women are pretty. When Seo-inâs parents get home, her mother tells Principal Lee how much he disappointed her and calls him despicable. Sheâs in tears because she knows that her husband is against the divorce because he wantâs to hide Seo-inâs abuse. Seo-inâs mother weeps, âDivorce is nothing to be ashamed of. You should be ashamed that youâre a shallow-minded father whoâs more concerned with what other people think.â Sheâs appalled by Principal Leeâs reaction, âLetâs hurry Jung-inâs weddingâŚNo family would want a daughter-in-law with a divorced sister.â Jae-in stares at the engagement ring and scolds Jung-in for falling for such an old trick. When Jae-in asks if her sister still has feelings for Ki-seok, Jung-in confesses, âI was surprised to realize that I already have no feelings left at all for him.â The next day at work, Jung-in catches Ha-rin and Young-joo reading an online announcement about Seo-inâs pregnancy. Theyâre surprised when Jung-in runs into the conference room to make a call. Ji-ho hears about Seo-inâs pregnancy from Pharmacist Wang. Ji-ho canât help but smile when Pharmacist Wang assumes that Jung-inâs family will be overjoyed when Jung-in marries in addition to the new baby. Ji-hoâs smile evaporates when Hyun-soo informs him that Ki-seok proposed. When Ye-seul walks into the back room later, she finds Ji-ho deep in thought and asks if heâs all right. At the bank, Ki-seok hands a corrected report back to Hyun-soo and wants to know, âHey, did you pass on the news to Ji-ho?â At the television station, Seo-in has to play the happy expectant mother when sheâs showered with congratulations. Shi-hoonâs receptionists are confused by the announcement after seeing how upset Seo-inâs mother was when she visited. Shi-hoon walks in while on the phone, basking in the attention that the announcement has generated. Ki-seok is at the bank when Ji-ho calls to ask for a meeting. Ki-seok tries to put him off but finally agrees to see Ji-ho that night. When Jae-in walks into Seo-inâs place and sees a large suitcase, she asks her mother if Shi-hoon is moving back in. Mom announces that it belongs to her and sighs, âGosh, Iâm so sick of this.â Jae-in wants her mother to promise that she wonât talk Seo-in out of divorcing Shi-hoon. Mom informs Jae-in that she plans to get a divorce too and Jae-in gets hit when she asks, âIf you and Dad get a divorce, whom should I choose?â After they discuss school business, Principal Lee mentions his meeting with Ki-seok to Chairman Kwon. Chairman Kwon is agains pressuring their kids to get married since children usually go against their parentsâ wishes. Chairman Kwon heard that Principal Lee has a grandchild on the way and advises, âJust enjoy that for now.â Principal Lee is afraid that Ki-seok and Jung-in will drag things out without their fathersâ help. Chairman Kwon reasons, âThen maybe theyâre not meant to be,â and walks off with his usual scowl, but once heâs out of sight, his face breaks into a smile. Jung-in has to work late and texts Ji-ho just as Ki-seok arrives for their meeting. When she gets a text itâs from Jae-in, who reports that Ji-ho knows about the proposal. Jung-in runs out of the library and calls Jae-in, who hands her phone to Young-jae. Young-jae confirms that Ji-ho set up a meeting with Ki-seok but he has no idea where they went. Young-jae makes sure to tell Jung-in that Ji-ho will never let her down and explains, âI guess I wanted to brag about my buddy.â A smug Ki-seok starts off the meeting, âHyun-soo, that blabbermouth, probably told you what happened. What more do you want to know?â Ji-ho has to calm himself before asking how long Ki-seok plans to make things hard for Jung-in. After Ki-seok calls Ji-ho an âobnoxious prickâ, Ji-ho announces his plan to tell everyone about his relationship with Jung-in, starting with their parents. Ki-seok is certain that Jung-inâs family wonât welcome him but Ji-ho argues that Jung-in has already accepted him, which is what matters. After Ki-seok taunts Ji-ho about the humiliation that awaits him, Ji-ho leans back in his chair and announces that heâs giving upâŚon Ki-seok. Ji-ho wonât be respectful or considerate of Ki-seok anymore. Jung-in leans out of Young-jooâs window while waiting for Ji-ho, worried that he and Ki-seok may actually fight this time. Young-joo argues that most people will sympathize with Ki-seok but as soon as Ji-ho gets home, Jung-in runs upstairs. Jung-in rings Ji-hoâs doorbell just as heâs about to take a shower. Jung-in lets herself in and when Ji-ho walks out of the bathroom, she pulls him into a back hug. She suggests talking like that if heâs mad but Ji-ho points out that Jung-in isnât the only one who was hiding something. Ji-ho offers to make some coffee but Jung-in wants a beer. Ji-ho canât join her because he has to drive her home but Jung-in announces, âIâm going to sleep here.â Jung-in wonders, âCanât I do that,â and when Ji-ho doesnât answer, she puts his mind at ease and admits that sheâs staying with Young-joo. When Ji-ho is ready to hear her apology, Jung-in explains that she only accepted Ki-seokâs ring because her guilt over the failed relationship kept her from throwing it back at him. Ji-ho accepts her explanation and Jung-in has to confess that sheâs not as good as Ji-ho. Tears well in Jung-inâs eyes when she promises, âFrom now on, Iâm going to try to become like you.â Ji-ho wipes away Jung-inâs tears, âYouâre still such a fool.â Ji-ho breaks the tension when he leans across the table to kiss Jung-in and laughs when he fails to reach her. Jae-in is out with Young-jae when Jung-in texts that sheâs staying the night with Young-joo. Jae-in doesnât believe her and pressures Young-jae for Ji-hoâs address so that she can catch Jung-in and Ji-ho together and blackmail her sister for an allowance. Young-jae calls Jae-in a bully and refuses to tell her where to find Ji-ho. Back at Ji-hoâs place, there are empty beer cans and half eaten snacks in the dark kitchen. After Ji-ho turns off the lamp in the bedroom, he and Jung-in kiss in bed until the photo of Eun-woo makes her self-conscious. Ji-ho turns the photo around and his neatly hung laundry blows in the breeze as the night stretches on. COMMENTS Well, just as I expected, Jung-in was the one to take her relationship with Ji-ho to the next stage, which makes perfect sense. While Ki-seok and their fathers continue to marginalize her, Ji-ho waited for Jung-in to decide what it is that she wants without any pressure. Chairman Kwonâs warning that pushing their kids into marriage could backfire turned out to be true because Ki-seok and Jung-inâs father have forced Jung-in and Ji-ho to fight for their right to be together. And now theyâre really together. As far as Iâm concerned, the pivotal scene wasnât in Ji-hoâs very dark bedroom, it was in the kitchen, when Jung-in confessed that Ji-ho has inspired her to become a better person. Jung-in was pained by her immaturity to the point of tears and promised to try to be more like Ji-ho. Thatâs what makes Jung-inâs relationship with Ji-ho so special, she wants to be a better person whoâs worthy of his love. Isnât that what true love should accomplish? Helping those involved to grow into better versions of themselves? I think that Jung-inâs relationship with Ji-ho has taught her what he already understands about love. Ji-ho is unselfish, patient, kind and loyal, just as his friend Young-jae described. It makes Ji-ho a great friend, father and boyfriend/future husband and Jung-in not only recognizes that, she appreciates it. However, Ji-ho has no more patience for Ki-seok, who has targeted Jung-in relentlessly in order to get his revenge on Ji-ho. That stare that Ji-ho leveled at Ki-seok took me by surprise and Iâm more that ready to see Ji-ho fight back. Ki-seok is really playing dirty after Chairman Kwon sent him those photos but it accomplished what he wanted, Ki-seok finally proposed, sort of. I think it was pretty obvious how impressed Chairman Kwon was to see Jung-in in his house and it only confirmed how much he wants her as a daughter-in-law, probably even more than Principal Lee wants Ki-seok as a son-in-law. Speaking of Principal Lee, what a poor excuse he is for a husband and father. It confuses me how the Lee women, with the exception of Jae-in, have ended up with such disrespectful men. These are strong women who have ended up with men who treat them like property. But I think the tide is about to turn, led by a rebellious Jung-in whoâs being forced to fight for her right to love Ji-ho. Shi-hoon is a thug who thinks that he just hit the jackpot thanks to the news about the baby. And Principal Lee again demonstrated his disturbing ability to ignore the truth in order to get what he wants, but this time it may have cost him his marriage. I couldnât be happier because Iâm pretty sure that man canât even boil water by himself. What I canât understand is why Seo-in hasnât disclosed Shi-hoonâs staggering debts to her father. That alone should get Principal Lee to agree to a divorce because Shi-hoonâs financial ruin will certainly hurt the Lee familyâs reputation almost as badly as Seo-inâs abuse. Shi-hoon is a ticking time bomb and thereâs no way that Principal Lee will escape unscathed, nor should he.
